The numbers are the most integrated part of human life as we use these numbers for various purposes in our life such as watching time, counting money, password of our mobile, measurement, etc. The positive numbers are represented on a number line, but you might get confused when it comes to representing negative numbers, aren't you? All the negative numbers are denoted on the left side of a number line. When you have been asked about the natural numbers, definitely you can answer that the numbers start from 1 and go upto infinity. But if we twist the question and ask you to answer, which numbers start from - infinity and go to + infinity? These numbers are called integers. For your better understanding, let's take some examples.
For natural numbers
9 + 5 = 14
For integers
9 + 5 = - 4
Considering the above example, you must have observed that in the case of natural numbers, both the digits are positive hence the result is the positive number, whereas, in the case of integers, the number is getting subtracted to the greatest number 9 with a negative sign. Hence, the result is -4.

Assume that Muskan and Sameer began walking in opposite directions from zero. Allow the '+' sign to indicate steps to the right of zero and the '–' sign to represent steps to the left of zero. Sameer can be represented as +5 if he moves 5 steps to the right of zero, and Muskan as –5 if she goes 5 steps to the left of zero. Now add a + or – sign to each of the following positions:
To the left of zero, take 8 steps.
To the right of zero, take 7 steps.
One hundred and eleven steps to the right of zero.
